In the series she had a long relationship with Vilches, but eventually decides to leave the hospital and end her relationship with the doctor. In episode 200, at Javier’s wedding, she returns and reveals that she is going to marry a Chilean.

The two actresses talked about it with Vertele in a special meeting, in which they ended up meeting again to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the premiere of Hospital Central. «Why not? They have been two very important characters and they could have a continuation perfectly to see how they are at this moment. It could be very interesting,» says Patricia Vico when asked about the spin-off demanded by her fans.
The end of their story in Hospital Central was to the liking of both, although they still have a thorn in their side: to further develop their relationship on television. «I would have told everything about the couples between women, I would have gotten into a million conflicts that I saw there could be. At that moment, my head was smoking with thousands of things that could be told about a relationship», confesses Fátima Baeza.

Este pasado miércoles, una era llegó a su fin: Después de más de 18 temporadas, la actriz Fátima Baeza y su personaje de Esther abandonaron el programa de televisión española del choque de trenes «Hospital Central» (a estas alturas, no voy a entrar en la ridícula trama que hizo que se fuera sin su mujer, Maca, y sin sus tres hijos).
Los vídeos ampliados de su último episodio – si el clip de arriba no es suficiente impresión – están disponibles en el formidable FBFC, sólo en español, aunque estoy seguro de que la versión subtitulada ya habrá aparecido en algún lugar de YouTube (¡deja los enlaces en los comentarios si encuentras alguno!). Ya no busco las versiones subtituladas porque veo «Hospital Central» (lo poco que vi en los últimos años, ya que hubo pocos rayos de luz desde la temporada 12 -algo que achaco enteramente a la redacción chapucera-) en español.
Maca y Esther fueron (y siguen siendo) figuras icónicas de la representación mediática lésbica en España, y también fuera de ella. Provienen de una época anterior a PepSi y el episodio de su boda se rodó brevemente después de que España aprobara su ley de matrimonio de género neutro.
